Clinton is located in upstate New York, about 250 miles (400 Kilometers) from New York City. Because of the distance, 51ÁÔÆæ cannot provide transportation to campus from your point of arrival in the U.S.
Students arriving from overseas must plan to continue from their port of entry in the US (usually John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, Newark Airport, or another large airport) to Syracuse, N.Y. or Utica, N.Y. for train and bus transportation. Also, please bear in mind that you may NOT enter the US more than 30 days in advance of the program start date on your I-20 form.

From your Point of Arrival to Syracuse, N.Y.

The easiest way to get to Syracuse is to continue traveling by plane. Students should book a connecting flight from their point of entry to Hancock International Airport in Syracuse. The airport in Syracuse is about one hour from the 51ÁÔÆæ campus by car.

From your Point of Arrival to Utica, N.Y.

Students arriving at John F. Kennedy or Newark Airports in the New York City area may find it a bit less expensive to travel to Utica, N.Y. via bus or train. To do so:

  • Take a taxi or bus from Kennedy Airport to Penn Station (for the train) or Port Authority Bus Terminal (for the bus). This will cost approximately $45 plus tolls and tips by taxi, and about $15 by bus. Check that will allow you to make a connection to a train or bus to Utica. Be sure to allow adequate time for customs and the trip into the city. Also, since international flights sometimes arrive when the currency exchange at the airport is closed, bring some US currency with you for the taxi or bus.
  • Train travel to Utica is via Amtrak and costs between $50 and $100. You may make reservations for an online or by calling 1-800-872-7245. The trip takes about 5 hours.
  • Bus travel by Greyhound also takes about 5 hours. You can check the  schedule and/or pre-purchase a ticket (costing about $65) at the Greyhound website or by calling 1-800-231-2222.

Both the bus and train arrive at the Utica Train Station. If you notify the Dean of Students office in advance of your expected arrival time, we can make arrangements to meet you and transport you to campus.
