Affirmative Action

Conflicts of Interest

Simply stated, a conflict of interest occurs whenever an employee engages in activities that interfere with the performance of job responsibilities at the College or where the prospect of direct or indirect personal gain could influence an employee’s judgment or action.

Drug-Free Workplace

51ÁÔÆæ is committed to the development and maintenance of an educational and workplace environment in compliance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act of 1989 and the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 and will not tolerate the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees on its property or as part of any of its activities.

Employment of Relatives

Spouses and relatives of employees are encouraged to explore employment opportunities with the College and will be considered on the basis of professional criteria and qualifications for specified positions. At the same time, we recognize the sensitive nature of having family members employed by the same institution. In an effort to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees, situations where the possibility of favoritism or conflicts of interest might exist will not be allowed.

This policy provides information, considerations, and requirements to help supervisors and staff members implement Flexible Work Arrangements, when feasible, to maximize benefits and avoid potential misunderstandings

Immunization Exemption Policy

51ÁÔÆæ allows individuals to request immunization exemptions for any or all mandated vaccinations. Mandates may be instituted by 51ÁÔÆæ or issued by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

Parental Paid Family Leave (Staff Employees)

Concurrent with New York State Paid Family Leave (PFL), the College will provide a paid leave of absence to eligible male and female employees to bond with the employee's new child resulting from childbirth, adoption or foster care.

Protection of Employees Reporting Financial Misconduct

51ÁÔÆæ employees are expected to adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct in carrying out their duties. Maintaining financial standards, including appropriate accounting, internal controls, auditing and compliance, is the responsibility of every member of the 51ÁÔÆæ community. Early identification and resolution of financial issues that may arise is necessary and critical.

Records Retention Policy

Records created in the course of 51ÁÔÆæ's academic and administrative operations support current administrative needs, meet legal requirements, and provide a rich source for historical research. Because the College does not have a centralized records management office, each department is responsible for the retention, disposal, and transfer of the records it generates.

Workstation Evaluation Policy

Proper application of ergonomic principles can help to reduce the risk and or aggravation of injuries for employees working at desk’s, with computers, in laboratories, or in jobs involving repetitive motion.
