Selection

The Gates Trust seeks students of exceptional academic achievement and scholarly promise. Candidates must present compelling reasons to study at Cambridge; and they will need to provide evidence of their ability to make a significant contribution to their discipline, either by research, or by teaching, or by using their learning creatively in their chosen profession. Candidates will be expected to have excellent transcripts showing sustained academic achievement, together with references able to speak specifically about academic performance and promise for scholarly growth.

Awards

Scholarships cover the full cost of studying Cambridge, plus a maintenance allowance sufficient for a single student. About 100 scholarships are offered yearly for one to three years of study.

Deadlines

October 15 – In order to be considered for the Gates scholarship, the application for admission to Cambridge must be submitted no later than October 15. A scholarship may only be taken up by a student who has been admitted to Cambridge through the standard admission process. There are separate procedures for selection as a Gates scholar. Those applying for Master’s degree or Doctoral study are admitted to Cambridge through the Board of Graduate Studies, those applying for a second Bachelor’s degree are admitted by the College.
