Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures Zhuoyi Wang recently published a chapter in the edited volume , titled “Between a Quest for Artistic Purity and Propaganda: The Case of Taiwan Wangshi (My Bittersweet Taiwan, 2004).”
This chapter explores the duality in Taiwan's representation in the 2004 film My Bittersweet Taiwan, made in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), highlighting the filmmakers' efforts to balance artistic expression with political messaging, while also navigating the tension between the PRC’s pro-unification stance and the influence of New Taiwanese Cinema on PRC filmmakers.
