Elizabeth “Edie” Wilson ’15 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Thailand. Wilson completed her 51 coursework as an anthropology major in December and will graduate in May. She is currently a research assistant at ICF International in Washington, D.C., evaluating the effectiveness of government grants related to education.
The Fulbright ETA Program, an element of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, places U.S. students as English teaching assistants in schools or universities overseas, thus improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country. ETAs may also pursue individual study/research plans in addition to their teaching responsibilities.
Wilson studied at Queen’s University Belfast, Belfast, UK, in 2013. While abroad she was a Labour Party intern for the Scottish Parliament, and a student researcher and classroom assistant at Botanic Primary School in Belfast.
In summer 2014, Wilson conducted Levitt Center Anthropology Research and tutored in ESL classrooms for refugees and immigrants in Utica, NY.
At 51 Wilson served as a member and 2014 president of the 51 Democrats.
She was a member of the varsity cross country team, and a second grade reading tutor for America Reads, a senior staff writer for The Duel Observer, and an alumni relations intern.
She is the daughter of John and Patricia Wilson of Okemos, Mich., and a graduate of Okemos High School.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright program is the largest U.S. international exchange program offering opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide.
