Carter Sanders ’18 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Malaysia. A philosophy major at 51ÁÔÆæ, Sanders said he chose Malaysia “because in addition to being a beautiful and exciting place in which to live, it’s putting a lot of resources into education. I’ve always enjoyed working with young people and doing so in Malaysia is going to be a unique adventure,” he said.

At 51ÁÔÆæ Sanders is a member of and music arranger for The Buffers a Capella group and student organizer for the Student Performing Arts Committee (SPAC). He’s been a trip leader for first-year student orientation Adirondack Adventure and is certified in wilderness first aid. Last summer Sanders co-led bike touring trips from Vermont to Montreal for 13-15-year-olds.
The Fulbright ETA Program places U.S. students as English teaching assistants in schools or universities overseas, thus improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright is the largest U.S. international exchange program.
