Course Description:

An introduction to Mystery, Crime, Suspense and Horror fiction and their visual representations by African American creatives. Students will engage in a critical examination of the ways in which these genres evolved from the antebellum period to the twenty-first century. Students will read works by such authors as Frank Webb, Charles Chesnutt, Pauline E. Hopkins, Chester Himes, Ann Petry, Ishmael Reed, Walter Mosley, Paula Woods, Jordan Peele, P. Djeli Clark and Tananarive Due. First Years and Sophomores Only. (Genre).  

 

Comments: Open to 1st Years and Sophomores only. Not open to students who have taken a writing-intensive course at the 100 or 200-level in the LIT dept.
