Course Description: This historiography course explores the transnational connections between African-American and African diasporic histories in Paris. It draws on a wide range of disciplinary perspectives and primary sources, including literature, music, film, and visual art, to consider the development of diasporic politics, the vogue for black exoticism, jazz, the Harlem Renaissance and négritude, civil rights and decolonization, and the global dimensions of Black Power.
