Noelle Relles earned a doctorate in marine science, with a concentration in biology and a sub-concentration in marine policy. For her graduate research she mapped the coral reefs off the coast of the island of Bonaire using satellite remote sensing techniques. She is interested in science that informs policy, and the maps she created on the state of the island’s reefs was used by the Bonaire National Marine Park to influence its management decisions.

Relles has given talks at the International Coral Reef Symposium and the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography. She has published peer-reviewed articles in the Journal of the Marine Biological Association UK, GIScience & Remote Sensing, the Encyclopedia of Modern Coral Reefs and the Proceedings of the 11th International Coral Reef Symposium.

Relles is coauthor of the book Getting Into Graduate School in the Sciences: A Step-by-Step Guide for Students.
