Corbett Costello earned his B.A. in art history with a minor in classics from the University of Texas at Arlington, an M.A. in South Asian Studies from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in South Asian Languages and Literature from the University of Washington. His research engages with the rich linguistic and literary landscapes of North India, encompassing ancient languages (Sanskrit and Prakrit), medieval dialects (Apabhramsha), as well as modern vernaculars (Hindi and Urdu). Costello’s current scholarship builds upon this foundation of language and textual studies with an emphasis on classical, medieval, and modern texts within the Jain religious tradition. Overall, his work aims to highlight the intersection between texts and the religious, cultural, linguistic, and geopolitical contexts in which they are embedded.
